STEAM Classroom Based Assessment

Well done to our 2nd year students who completed their STEAM Classroom Based Assessment last week. In this fantastic opportunity, the students, in teams of 3 and 4, were given the task of designing and building an enrichment tool for a chosen species of animal that currently resides in Fota Wildlife Park. Following a 4 week research programme, where our students visited FOTA each week and were given presentations and tours by the amazing staff at Fota, the groups of students went to work collectively researching a variety of animals and how they engage with their environment. The brief for the enrichment tool was that the it had to be durable, safe, it had to encourage the animal to engage, and be a form of puzzle through which, if solved, the animal would retrieve food. Our students did not disappoint! It’s was a a major feat of research, engineering, design and construction. Many thanks to the great staff at FOTA Wildlife park, who facilitated this programme; the very first of its kind with any school. Well done to our STEAM ‘DREAM’ TEAM of teachers, and a huge well done to all of our students. #cuttingedge #leadingtheway
