A team of inventive students from both 1st and 2nd year took part in the inaugural Cork First Lego Leagues competition in UCC on Saturday 2nd December. With the theme of the competition being Water, the team designed and programmed a robot to complete challenges associated with human use of water, including fixing a broken pipe and making it rain. As well as competing in the robot challenge, the team presented their research problem; the spreading of germs on sports bottles, the solution of which involved using the school 3-D printer to print a unique disinfecting cap for bottles. Students also presented their robot design and program to a panel of Research Engineers from UCC. A great day was had by all and students are already looking forward to next year’s competition.
