U16.5 Football Munster Championship

28th February 2020Winnie Daly

Our U16.5 Football Munster Championship campaign came to an end this week. Following a comprehensive opening round win against Meánscoil San Nioclás from Rinn in Waterford, the our boys came up against a strong Gaelscoil Carrigaline side. They played against the wind in the first half and went into the break down by 8 points, despite some great point scoring from Eric O’ Sullivan. Calvin Fitzgerald and Oscar Cahalane showed great leadership throughout the game with both players chipping in with a goal in the first half. The team started the second half in the ascendency and with some fantastic play from Mark O’ Connor, Oisin Lynch and Cian O’ Riordan they drew the game level with 10 minutes left on the clock. Unfortunately Gaelscoil Carrigaline rallied and took the lead by a goal. Mark O’ Connor was extremely unlucky to hit the post in one of the games final moments.

The U16.5 team are now finished for the year but the U16 team has been drawn against Gaelscoil Carrigaline again in the Cork Championship. They will be looking forward to the rematch!
